Awards – Western Society of Criminology

The WSC recognizes contributions to the field through the following awards:

The Paul Tappan Award – For outstanding contributions to the field of criminology
The Fellows Award – For individuals generally associated with the Western region who have made important contributions to the field of criminology
The June Morrison-Tom Gitchoff Founders Award – For significant improvement of the quality of justice
The W.E.B. DuBois Award – For significant contributions to the field of racial and ethnic issues in criminology
The Meda Chesney-Lind Award– For significant contributions to scholarship or activism on the intersection of women and crime
The Richard Tewksbury Award– For significant contributions to scholarship or activism on the intersection of crime and sexuality
Henry F. Fradella Award– For significant contributions to empirical scholarship on the legal aspects of criminal justice
The Joseph E. Lohman Award – For outstanding service to the Western Society of Criminology
The President’s Award – For contributions to the field of criminology and positive influence on the current WSC president’s career

Nominations

Each year, the WSC solicits email nominations for all awards (other than the President’s Award). Anyone may submit a nomination. Neither the nominator nor the nominee needs to be a member of the WSC. Simply either (1) prepare a short biographical sketch of the nominee (100 words) and a link to the nominee’s online bio and curriculum vitae or résumé; or (2) if no online bio and curriculum vitae or résumé are available, submit a biographical sketch of the nominee (500 words maximum) explaining why the person is deserving of the particular award.
